Our History

Engrave Inc. was founded in 1976 by Robert E. Polewski. As Director of Research and Development for a major toy company, Mr. Polewski was keenly aware of the lack of both mold makers and molders willing to provide the short run services so critical to the development process. He envisioned a small shop capable of producing high quality, short run tooling, that could readily accept engineering changes. In addition, he needed very short lead times, low cost, and a cooperative vendor willing to commit his equipment for hours as opposed to weeks, or months. At its inception, in 1976, the company’s primary focus was the manufacture of aluminum cores and cavities to aid the R&D departments of plastics manufacturers in the development of new products. These tools were produced on pantographs, employing a process referred to as “Three Dimensional Copy Milling.” The company also produced very intricate embossing and stamping dies, thus the name Engrave Incorporated was chosen. Engrave Inc. entered the injection molding field in 1979 in an effort to offer its customers a sole source for their plastic needs. The ensuing years provided a wealth of knowledge in both tooling and molding in long and short run applications. We began to experiment with aluminum molds to determine their suitability for limited production runs. Convincing skeptical buyers that our product could perform comparably with their hardened steel tooling in carefully selected areas, proved to be a challenge. We worked closely with an aluminum supplier in testing its new materials for long run injection molding. Our results proved so successful that we were invited to the National Plastics Expo in 1990, where a number of our high volume aluminum molds were featured. Today, Engrave Inc. is a full service plastic part supplier, offering design services, both steel and aluminum molds, and injection molding capabilities for short and long run applications. For 40 years, our highly capable staff has been providing high quality, on time delivery, competitively priced plastic products to a nationwide market.

Convincing customers that a high quality aluminum injection mold can perform comparably to a hardened steel tool in many applications, has allowed our clients to cut cost and lead times, with no sacrifice to quality or reliability. Engrave Inc. has changed the perception of “aluminum for prototypes only” by very carefully evaluating each individual customers needs. Newer, high quality aluminums (QC-7 & QC-10), specifically manufactured for injection molds, are 20-25% harder than many Chinese steels used in off-shore tools.  Aluminum is stable, machines quickly and cleanly, can be chemically textured, and stays cool during molding cycles. We stand behind what we sell, and we will unconditionally guarantee any mold that we build, for as long as it is in our possession.
